Hyper-lordosis has a negative effect on the lumber spine in that the vertebra’s experience wear and tear at an accelerated rate. In addition a hyper-lordosis causes irritation in the lumber vertebra as well as the sacrum – iliac joints causing pain and stiffness. However, hyper-lordosis doesn’t only effect the pelvis and the lumber spine but also has a knock on effect to both the thoracic spine encouraging kyphosis and lordosis cervical.

Symptoms for hyper-lordosis

Repeat Lumbago’s (lower back pain), especially in the lower back muscles, pain in the lumber – sacrum area and muscular pain in the crest iliac.

Osteopathy tests for hyper-lordosis

The patient lies face down and pressure applied to the lumber area, first with the palm of the hand. If the pain is manageable an osteopath may test the area again applying pressure with his or her fingers adding the lower thoracic area into the test to gauge the severity of the problem.

Pain in the lower back while the patient is standing and leaning back (hyperextension) also indicates hyper –lordosis.
